For most people, having the chance to represent our country at the Olympics would be a dream come true. People work their whole lives for an opportunity like this and a cyclist from Durango decided to turn down a spot that could have given him that chance.

The Durango Herald reports that Sepp Kuss turned down the place because he will stay focused on the Tour de France and Vuelta Espana. I’m not even going to start acting like I know a lot about cycling. But I know that being an Olympic athlete at any level is a huge accomplishment. And if he refuses this chance, obviously, these races mean more to him than anything.

Sepp Kuss was planning to compete in the Olympics before the pandemic

Our amazing cyclist from Durango was named to the long team by USA Cycling and had to be ready for the Summer Games in Tokyo. But the pandemic pushed back games, which is now disrupting his training schedule, so he had tough decisions to make about what events he wanted to train for.

His announcement to decline to participate in the US Olympic Road Team was made on Instagram.

What’s next for cyclist Sepp Kuss?

He will tackle his second Tour de France from June 26 to July 18. Then he will have a chance for a leadership role for the Jumbo-Visma team in Vuelta a Espana from August 14 to September 5.
