How to clean oven racks with baking soda – “easy and natural” cleaning method

Ovens are one of the most used appliances in the kitchen, yet they often get overlooked when it comes to regular cleaning. Although there are many ways to clean the inside of your oven, oven racks usually need to be removed for proper scrubbing.

How to clean oven racks with baking soda

Start by laying an old towel, or a rag large enough to fit over the supports, on the bottom of your tub.

If you don’t have a tub, you can use a large container, such as an underbed storage box.

Next, lay the oven racks on top, making sure they are covered by the surface of the towel.

Fully immerse the oven racks in hot water. At this stage, it is advisable to wear rubber gloves to protect your hands from the temperature.

Sprinkle baking soda on the oven racks. A generous portion will work well for heavily soiled metal.

Add half a cup of dish detergent, then let your oven racks soak in the cleaning solution.

Once soaked, wipe with a damp microfiber cloth.

If your grates are dirty, you may need to scrub them with a sponge, but avoid using steel wool or brushes.

These items can scratch the stainless steel and cause rust in the future.

When finished, dry your stainless steel oven racks thoroughly after cleaning to avoid staining.
